Job Role: Sewing Machine Operator (SMO) — DDU-GKY
Overview: The Sewing Machine Operator (SMO) course is designed to empower rural youth with technical skills in garment construction. Trainees learn to operate industrial sewing machines, perform basic stitching, understand garment construction techniques, and maintain workplace safety. The course is aligned with the latest industry practices and equips candidates for job roles in apparel production units, boutiques, and garment export houses.
- Eligibility:
• Age group: 18–35 years (as per scheme guidelines)
• Resident of rural area (covered under DDU-GKY norms)
• Minimum education: 5th standard pass
• Aadhaar card and address proof mandatory
• Preference given to women, minorities, and marginalized communities


- Training Duration:
• Duration: 3 to 4 months (NSQF Level 4)
• Includes: Domain training, soft skills, English language, digital literacy, and On-the-Job Training (OJT)
• Residential training with free hostel, meals, uniforms, books, and travel support .


Placement Support:

• Placement in reputed garment manufacturing units and textile hubs
• Minimum 70% placement assurance post training (as per DDU-GKY guidelines)
• 12-month post-placement tracking and support
• Industry exposure through factory visits and OJT during training
